Preconstruction A successful preconstruction process is much more than developing a budget that meets funding goals. It’s about planning the finite details of a construction project to ensure success once the shovel hits the ground. Building Concrete Solutions utilizes conceptual estimates, on- and off-site design assist and value-engineering processes, and a highly experienced project scheduling team to ensure efficient, schedule-driven outcomes. Technology & Innovation Building Concrete Solutions uses a variety of software tools such as Revit, Tekla, AutoDesk and NavisWorks to turn 2D plans into 3D, virtual working models that are fully compatible with systems used by the Coordination Team. These models allow us to identify anticipated problems before they become problems onsite. Practical applications include: Creating structural models Modifying structural models to incorporate changes in new drawing revisions Updating structural models with as-built dimensions and conditions for use in clash detection with MEP trades Creating 3-D formwork model Our Projects View Projects
- Gabels Residential Westcreek | BCS
< Back to Projects Gabels Residential Westcreek Owner: Gabels Residential Category: Vertical and Elevated Concrete, Concrete Placement, Concrete Finishing Gables Westcreek is a 15-story apartment development with 295 units, 4 level garage and 11 levels of residential PT slabs totaling 783,000 square feet. Building Concrete Solutions worked closely with all trades involved in the project to productively and efficiently install formwork to allow other trades to get their work done in accordance with the schedule. Utilizing Alshor SK Grid System (6’x8’), BCS met the unique needs of this high-rise that required substantial amount of “flat slabs”. This forming system allowed the team to continue framing without the constant need of the tower crane. Once concrete strength was achieved, all ledgers and joists could be released and moved to the next area while keeping the structure supported. Alshor Plus tables were used at the perimeter to keep crews safe and to maintain the perimeter as the tables were flown to the next level. To play, press and hold the enter key. - University of Texas Medical Branch League City Parking Garage | BCS
< Back to Projects University of Texas Medical Branch League City Parking Garage Owner: University of Texas Medical Branch Category: Structured Parking, Elevated Concrete, Foundation, Concrete Material, Concrete Placement, Concrete Finishing A multi-component and phased project, it included 261,500 square feet garage foundation and structure, 26,500 square feet attached elevated structure and 11,580 square feet bridge to existing hospital. As project speed was an important factor, BCS chose to utilize EFCO’s Cunningham Garage System which allowed for pre-assembly of all the beam troughs at the fabrication yard. In addition, all columns form, beam sides and slab tables were pre-assembled ensuring the highest quality and safety were achieved through a controlled environment. BIM models were used to look ahead to manage potential conflicts and challenges. To play, press and hold the enter key. To stop, release the enter key. Previous Next
- The Travis at 3300 Main | BCS
< Back to Projects The Travis at 3300 Main Owner: Madison Marquette Category: Concrete Foundations, Elevated Concrete, Site Concrete, Concrete Material, Concrete Placement, Concrete Finishing A mixed-use project, The Travis is a 30-story, multi-family building. Due to the complexity, Building Concrete Solutions used RMD’s Alshor Plus for the garage portion of this project. To achieve the productivity required for the tower levels, we analyzed the utilization of EFCO’s Column Hung System. The system can only be used when specific factors are present in a structure. These are slab tables that span from column to column and are supported by heavy duty jacks. This system, in most cases, eliminates the need for re-shoring which allows other trades to perform work immediately after stripping the table, allowing for maximum efficiency. Tables were pre-fabricated on site weeks prior to tower start date. Working under a disciplined timeline, Building Concrete Solutions successfully managed this project by essentially building one floor per week while maintaining an extremely clean and safe job site. By splitting the garage to continue with the residential portion of the project, BCS was able to cut 3 weeks off the schedule and, in the end, topping out the second half of the garage and the residential structure at the same time – a unique challenge that was met with success. Utilizing the column-hung system allowed framing and interior work to continue below while the structure was in construction – accomplished by not having to re-shore 2 levels below. Safety was a very high priority on this unique project. As such, it required tethers on all hard hats and hand tools. This project required careful, meticulous planning to ensure all partners were able to perform their project work on schedule and in phases. By carefully pre-planning all the activities including how many and which columns could be poured after the elevated decks were poured, ensured the teams could continue working on the next level each consecutive day. The schedule was maintained by having frequent project team meetings with daily follow up. To play, press and hold the enter key. To stop, release the enter key. Previous Next
- Texas Children's Hospital The Woodlands | BCS
< Back to Projects Texas Children's Hospital The Woodlands Owner: Texas Children's Hospital Category: Elevated Concrete, Tilt Wall, Site Concrete, Foundations, Concrete Material, Concrete Placement, Concrete Finishing As one of Building Concrete Solutions’ largest projects to date, technology played an important role in this challenging, multi-faceted project which included: 21,000 square feet of tilt wall in the central plant 7 stories and 1,200 parking spaces in the parking structure 6 level CIP structure with a total area of 200,000 square feet 5 levels of CIP structure in the hospital with a total area of 348,000 square feet. Through the use of PlanGrid, BCS was able to maintain tight document control. - MD Anderson Cancer Center West Houston | BCS
< Back to Projects MD Anderson Cancer Center West Houston Owner: MD Anderson Cancer Center Category: Foundations, Elevated Concrete, Site Concrete, Concrete Material, Concrete Placement, Concrete Finishing As MD Anderson’s first free-standing clinical building outside the Texas Medical Center, it was built on 36 acres and includes approximately 175,000 square feet. Building Concrete Solutions’ formwork system of choice for this project was RMD’s Alshor Plus. This specific project was designed as a Pan-Type floor system. The assembly time for the system was minimal, allowing the team to pre-assemble the slab tables while a different crew was setting up the frames that would provide the support. The safety benefit of this system is that all parts are bolted down, decreasing the risk of falling object during the stripping process. All columns forms and beam sides were pre-assembled at our fabrication yard for quality control and increased safety. Phase 1: Foundation and site: auger cast piles, caps, grade beams, 53,000 SF slab on grade, 17,200 SF walks and 215,000 SF paving Phase 2: Elevated structure: 242,300 SF pan slab To play, press and hold the enter key.
